At every election, have you ever wondered at the unfair outcome compared with how the votes are cast?
A system of Proportional Representation provides the answer. The purpose of Make Votes Count in West Sussex is to promote the need for these systems in order to achieve a better functioning of democracy in Britain at all levels of Government. All the nations of the UK have proportional representation. Why not the British House of Commons and English Local Government?
Of course other aspects like the Rule of Law and Independence of the Judiciary are important parts of democracy. But recent history (February 2024) highlighted that the House of Commons and Belarus parliament are now the only national legislatures that are elected by the first past the post system. Belarus is dictatorship.
